Dental and Oral Care During Treatment

Preparing for cancer treatment required a thorough dental check-up, and I am grateful to have met Stacy, an exceptionally skilled and kind dental hygienist. She succeeded where others had not in emphasizing the importance of proper oral hygiene. While I’ve always attended regular cleanings, I realized my brushing and flossing habits needed improvement. With upcoming radiation, oral care became critical. Fortunately, my teeth were in relatively good shape, with only minor cavities that could likely be reversed with diligent flossing and fluoride. I now use my Waterpik after every meal, brush thoroughly, and floss at least twice a day.

I highly recommend investing in a Waterpik (around $80). Seeing what it removes after each use is eye-opening; the leftover “gunk” is what turns into plaque and cavities. Due to my radiation treatments and reduced saliva, I find I need to use my Waterpik and brush immediately after meals.
